The true spirit of the holiday season was evident for the annual A.J. Letizio Enterprise Center community service project. A room with close to 100 volunteers, cheerfully and methodically filling up huge baskets of food and other essentials for families in need, was reminiscent of what one imagines goes on in Sant’s Workshop on Christmas Eve! The baskets were heading to families to brighten up their holiday season.
The system of packing the baskets has been perfected, as it has 30 years since A.J. Letizio Enterprise Center has organized this community service project that involves all their staff and staff family members volunteering their tie to fill the mega-baskets to be distributed in Windham and beyond.
President/Chief Executive Officer of A.J. Letizio Enterprises,/Al Letizio, Jr. explained “We have about 70,000 total food products and fill 160 baskets”. Some of the baskets go to the local community and other baskets go where employees live, all the way up and down the east coast.” Staff and employees gather items throughout the year, some come from the customers and clients. All explained they have a total of 114 different products and when each tote is complete they weigh in at about 50 pounds. Baskets include pasta, sausages, hot dogs, canned goods, vegetables, juice peanut butter, jelly bread, paper products and to top it all off everyone gets a turkey and ham! The items will fulfill holidays wishes and beyond!
The evening of packing ended with a visit form Jolly Ole St . Nick!
